Advancing Your Gigs

post4.JPGOne of the most satisfying experiences for any musician on tour is to arrive at the venue and everything is already taken cared of. Equipments, publicity and posters are all in place. All of these do not happen by accident, good planning and advancing the date are the keys. Advancing the date means the act of calling ahead to the venue and getting in touch with other associated contacts prior to the play date. This includes confirming arrangements with appropriate personnel.

Most of the work on tour is the responsibility of the road manager. However, not every musician, especially those starting their career, can afford a road manager. If you do not have the financial capability to hire a road manager, then the responsibility should fall on the shoulders of one of the members of your band or your team. Making advancing part of your band’s routing will allow your band to avoid some of the problems associated with musicians on tour.
